A weekend blaze in the Townsend Road area is being investigated as a suspected arson.

Sooke firefighters responded to a bush fire call on Sunday at noon.

Exact cause of the fire is unknown, though Sooke Fire Chief Steve Sorensen said it appeared deliberately set.

He pointed out that this location has two or three fire-related incidents per year, and was also the spot where a couch was lit on fire last summer.

While the bush fire was minor, its location in the town centre is “worrisome,” noted Sorensen.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police at 250-642-5241
