A crash in Colwood Thursday evening left one person dead after a motorcycle and a car collided near the bridge on Ocean Boulevard.

The West Shore RCMP, BC Ambulance Service, and the Colwood and View Royal fire departments were called to the Esquimalt Lagoon shortly before 7 p.m. for a crash involving a motorcycle and a Ford Focus.

The male driver of the motorcycle was pronounced dead at the scene and the female driver of the Ford Focus was assessed with minor injuries.

“The RCMP collision analyst has completed a full examination and the vehicles will undergo mechanical inspections. The cause of the collision remains under investigation,” said Cpl. Chris Dovell of the West Shore RCMP.

The BC Coroners Service confirmed a man in his late 30s was killed in the incident.

The road was closed to all traffic for several hours while crash scene reconstructionists investigated what happened.
