Cherry blossoms are blooming early in Victoria

Blossoms are tinting streets pink across Greater Victoria

One of the best perks about living in Victoria is mid-winter blossoms, and this year the trees are blooming early.

The City of Victoria has thousands of cherry trees planted, with famous areas including Moss Street, Beacon Hill Park and China Town for picturesque opportunities.

Two types of trees with different schedules are spread throughout the city to prolong the blossoming season, one cherry and one plum.

For any would-be viewers, the exact location of each tree is marked on a detailed and interactive map put forward by the City of Victoria.

The District of Oak Bay also has hundreds of blossoming trees scattered throughout the municipality, and residents are noticing the early buds.

“We don’t have anything like Moss Street in Victoria, but our best street is definitely Musgrave Street,” said Chris Hyde-Lay, manager of park services for Oak Bay.

Oak Bay also has two types of trees; Daybreak cherry trees typically bloom February, while Kanzan cherry trees bloom in April.
