COVID outbreak declared at senior care home Amica Douglas in Victoria

Two staff of the senior home’s second floor tested positive for the illness

Amica Douglas House is the centre of the latest COVID-19 outbreak reported by Island Health.

Two staff members tested positive as of Dec. 28, at which time no residents reported experiencing symptoms. The outbreak was isolated to the second floor of the senior’s home located at Douglas and Battery streets, according to a statement from Island Health. Communications with the families of residents and staff are underway.

“During this time, Island Health will support the site to take any further actions required and answer questions,” the release stated. The home has barred admissions and transfers to its second floor, group activities, and will continue twice a day screening of all staff and residents. Visitation to the second floor continues for “essential visits” only.
