Service delays persist for curbside recycling pickup in the Capital Regional District following overwhelming volumes and other service obstacles.
Winter weather, high material volumes, staffing challenges and supply chain issues are among the causes for delay, according to the CRD.
Emterra, the contracted company responsible for collection of curbside paper and packaging material, is aiming to complete scheduled routes between 7:30 a.m. and 9 p.m. daily.
However, a combination of recycling quantity at the curb following weather-related cancellations and postponed vehicle repairs has led to further service disruption.
“The CRD understands the impact these ongoing service disruptions have had on residents and appreciates their patience as we work to return the blue box program to normal service levels as quickly as possible,” a release reads.
To reduce service delays, Emterra’s collection trucks are unable to recover recyclable materials on alternate collection days.
Blue box materials that have not been picked up from the curb by 9 p.m. on scheduled collection days should be brought inside until the following collection day.
Greater Victoria residents are encouraged to return paper, cardboard and mixed containers to a recycling depot themselves to ease collection volume until service returns to normal.
