The District of Sooke is following the Coastal Fire centre in rescinding the campfire ban.

However, open burning is not permitted in the district until Oct. 1, said Sooke Fire Rescue in a statement.

As of noon Monday, the B.C. Wildfire Service rescinded the campfire prohibition that was in effect within the Coastal Fire Centre’s jurisdiction.

The use of tiki torches, outdoor stoves, gas stoves and other portable campfire equipment is now permitted.

The fire rating was also lowered to moderate for the region.
