Four boaters are high and dry after a harrowing bit of time on the waters off Cattle Point this evening.

Oak Bay police and fire, as well as Royal Canadian Marine Search and Rescue - Station Oak Bay were dispatched after a boat that left the ramp couldn’t get its engine going.

“Our understanding was that a boat with four passengers made their way from the south boat ramp at Cattle Point,” said

Assistant Chief Don Roskelly, Oak Bay Fire. “Upon getting onto the water my understanding is they weren’t able to start the motor. The wind pushed them onto the tidal rocks that were exposed due to a lower tide.”

Oak Bay Police were on scene first and an officer had the foursome out of the boat when the fire department arrived around 5:30 p.m.

“The first police officer made his way out to the rocks to assist them. He held the boat and got them all out onto the rocks. When we arrived on scene the police officer was holding the boat … along with the owner,” Roskelley said. “Our crew went out and assisted by tying a rope to the bow and we were able to bring the boat in as well as assist the passengers off the rocks.”

The four were checked over by BC Ambulance.
