Stores at the Bay Centre have put on a number of Boxing Day bargains, including up to 70 per cent off at Below the Belt, 50 per cent off at Lifestyles West and La Senza, end of season sales at Aldo and Call It Spring and many others. A list of the Bay Centre’s Boxing Day deals can be found online at the baycentre.ca.

The West Shore Town Centre was filling up Thursday morning with shoppers looking for good deals. Stores like Ardene, Bootlegger, La Vie En Rose and Northern Reflections are offering Boxing Day sales ranging from two-for-one deals and even up to 70 per cent off items.

Catherine Thorson woke up at 5:30 a.m. to get a head start on her shopping. She went to Walmart, Best Buy and the West Shore Town Centre to beat shoppers to some of this year’s deals. While Thorson said she goes shopping each year on Boxing Day, she said she doesn’t often wake up early to do so. Thorson said she has two children who are young adults and knows they like good deals on computer and tech items.

“It’s been great, some fantastic sales,” Thorson said.

She bought items like a new coffee maker and a computer mouse at Best Buy and was on the hunt for a new purse at the mall.

Mauro Gomez stuck with some practical shopping on Boxing Day. He went to Best Buy to purchase some smart switches for his living room and dining room to make his home more efficient.

“I checked the Boxing Day savings and bought something I was planning to…no extra shopping,” Gomez said.

Although a steady stream of vehicles and shoppers made their way through the Best Buy parking lot in Langford, Gomez said he only waited about three minutes in the store’s checkout line.

Shoppers at Mayfair Shopping Centre may have experienced some mayhem as the mall’s parking lots filled up in the afternoon. Traffic control people were spotted in the parking lots directing motorists to various areas to wait for an empty spot. Inside the mall, thousands of shoppers were bustling about and filled the food court as well.

Peter Beasley, who was controlling traffic at Mayfair Shopping Centre, said the parking lots have been busy since he arrived at 10 a.m. and he doesn’t expect traffic to let up until the mall closes.

“It’s hard to keep track of all of the traffic…people crossing every which way and nobody is giving anybody the right of way,” Beasley said.

Prince Rupert resident Clarence Martin said he went to Mayfair to carry bags for his daughter and wife and pay the bills.

“I just come here to people watch,” Martin said.
