An Omicron-induced staffing shortage is causing LifeLabs to temporarily close two Greater Victoria locations, and reduce the hours at two others.
From Jan. 11 to 23, the health care provider’s sites at 650 Fort St. in Victoria and 1641 Hillside Ave. in Saanich will be closed.
At 1590 Cedar Hill Crossroad in Saanich, hours will be reduced during the same two week period from 6:30 a.m to 5 p.m., to 6:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. In Colwood, at 582 Goldstream Ave, hours will move from 6:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., to 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Throughout the province, LifeLabs has adjusted the hours of a total of five of its 129 sites and temporarily closed 11 others.
Available staff at closed locations will be re-deployed to nearby, central locations.
The changes come amid spiking Omicron cases and staffing shortages throughout the health care sector.
In October, LifeLabs also cited staffing problems when it closed its sites in the Westshore Town Centre and next to the Royal Jubilee Hospital, and reduced its hours at a Vic West and Sidney location. At the time, it said the temporary measures should last until Jan. 4, but as of Jan. 12, they remain in place.
“We apologize for the inconvenience to our customers. We appreciate your patience as we continue to navigate these challenging public health circumstances,” LifeLabs said in a Jan. 12 statement.
