If you spot trouble in your travels, take the high road and give Mainroad South Island a call.

With a nasty whack of weather in the forecast for the next few days, including heavy rain and high winds, Mainroad is stressing the importance of keeping the crews that keep our roads safe in the loop.

Mainroad is asking motorists to call their 24-hour communications and dispatch office at 1-877-391-7310 with their concerns and observations to enable crews patrolling roadways during the three-day weather event to respond to areas requiring servicing.

Environment Canada has issued a wind warning for most of Vancouver Island. The forecast calls for the Victoria area to be hit by winds in the 70 to 90 km/h range today, and that is likely to increase by the afternoon.

Similar advisories have been issued along the east coast of the Island from Duncan to Nanaimo, Courtney to Campbell River and Nanoose Bay to Fanny Bay. Another storm is expected to hit Vancouver Island Saturday evening, as well.

Environment Canada has listed wind and rain for the next three days in the areas “vigorous,” and reminds residents that loose objects driven by wind can cause significant damage or injury. High winds have caused B.C. Ferries to cancel some sailings today, and BC Hydro is already dealing with some power outages mid-Island.
