New COVID outbreak declared at Victoria long-term home

More cases also announced at Victoria and Nanaimo facilities with existing outbreaks

Island Health has declared a new COVID outbreak in a Victoria long-term care home, and announced additional cases in existing outbreaks.

Clover Point Care long-term care home at 90 Linden Ave. is the latest residential facility to experience an outbreak. One staff member and five residents have tested positive for the virus, Island Health stated in a Jan. 6 bulletin.

Additionally, the health authority provided updates to existing outbreaks declared on Jan. 5.

Glenwarren Lodge in Victoria, which initially reported five residents and seven staff with COVID, has identified three additional staff cases. The outbreak continues to be contained to the first floor of the care home.

Also in Victoria, Selkirk Seniors Village has identified two additional staff cases, bringing its total to eight, along with one resident case on its third floor.

Eden Gardens long-term care home in Nanaimo has seen one more staff and two more residents test positive, for a total of four staff and three resident cases.

At each care home, Island Health said, no transfers are being made or group activities allowed in the affected units, staff movements are being limited wherever possible, and COVID tests are being distributed “as determined by the Medical Health Officer and Infection Prevention and Control.”

Only essential visitors are allowed to Island Health care homes according to provincial health policy, including at long-term care homes facing outbreaks.
