Owners ask public for help finding lost Saanich dog

Five-year-old Rosco hit by two vehicles on Dec. 12

A Saanich family’s beloved dog is still missing after escaping and being hit by two vehicles.

His owners have been searching for the five-year-old Great Dane cross since Dec. 12, when he ran away from a home in the 4000 block of Carey Road.

Deborah Hicks, the mother of Rosco’s owner, pleaded in an email for help. The dog is sandy blond with a curly tail and weighs 120 pounds

“We are begging the public to look in their yards as he will be taking shelter somewhere. He was seen with a limp but he’s moving so he could be on his way home,” Hicks said.

In the week he’s been missing, she said they’ve heard of two possible sightings on Burnside near Wilkinson. But she warns that Rosco should not be approached by people he doesn’t know, since he won’t be thinking properly if he’s injured.

“We have been out day and night searching every single spot we can get access to, not only there but all of Saanich and towards Central Saanich as that is his home,” Hicks wrote.

Both ROAM and FLED, organizations that help reunite pets with their families, are helping look for the dog.

“The amount of people who see the social media posts and go looking by themselves has been overwhelming. We hear people call out his name wherever we are searching,” Hicks said. “I have kindhearted strangers calling and messaging me asking how they can help and where to look. The support has been so comforting as we know there is a better chance of finding him with help.”

If anyone has information about Rosco’s whereabouts, they can call Roam at 778-977-6265 at any time.
