Amid an outpouring of condolences for friends, family and colleagues, police have identified the man killed while working in Oak Bay on Wednesday (May 17).
Public works employee and Oak Bay resident Steve Seekins, 52, died after he was hit by a driver around 8 a.m. while working with a crew on Monterey Avenue.
Seekins, a husband and father of two, was working on a sidewalk shortly after 8 a.m. when he was struck by a black SUV moving at a high rate of speed, police said. The driver of the SUV, a 66-year-old Victoria woman, was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Monterey Avenue remained closed until around 6 p.m. The cause of the collision remains under investigation by Oak Bay and Saanich police. Officers ask anyone who saw the black SUV Wednesday morning or has dash cam or other video, to email media@saanichpolice.ca.
