A residential structure fire in the 4100-block of Clinton Place sent smoke billowing over the cul de sac, according to a tweet from Saanich Fire Department Deputy Fire Chief Dan Wood, just before 9:50 a.m. Tuesday morning.

The department arrived at the residence after receiving a 911 call from its neighbours, acting Capt. Sean Lillis told Black Press Media. The building’s residents were not home at the time.

The fire crew first saw smoke emanating from the garage, where the fire was found and contained. It didn’t spread to other rooms of the single-storey home, and no injuries were reported at the scene, Lillis said. Although it doesn’t appear suspicious, the cause of the fire is still under investigation.

“It’s important to close doors while sleeping to stop heat from extending into the rest of the home,” in the event of a fire, Lillis said.
