A Saanich man faces theft charges and evading court warrants after being arrested in a stolen vehicle in Sooke on Tuesday night.

Sooke RCMP officers pulled the vehicle over near 2300 block of Church Road after noticing its plate stickers were expired. Officers soon determined the vehicle’s validation tag was stolen and arrested the 22-year-old male, who was the sole occupant.

Inside the vehicle, police also recovered property including chainsaws, but investigators are trying to determine whether or not those items are stolen, said Sooke RCMP Staff Sgt. Jeff McArthur.

In addition to the suspect’s arrest, he was also issued violation tickets for no insurance, wrong number plate and no drivers license, totalling $900.

He remains in custody and is to appear in court for previous outstanding warrants, with new charges for possession of stolen property.
