Saanich residents trust their police.
Saanich police scored a 95 per cent approval rating in the 2019 Saanich citizen survey released recently.
That number is down slightly from 2015 when it was at 97 per cent. It further breaks down to 56 per cent of residents saying they are ‘very satisfied’ with police while another 39 per cent said they’re ‘somewhat’ satisfied.

Altogether, the 95 per cent rating is amongst the highest of Saanich services polled. The only services that ranked higher on the satisfaction survey were the level of drinking water (99 per cent), Saanich Fire services (98) and school fire safety program (97), and Saanich’s recreation programming (98).
“These high approval rankings from Saanich residents reflect the excellent professional level of service to our community,” said Mayor Fred Haynes, chair of the Police Board. “It shows people feel safe and the department is meeting the needs of our citizens.”

Saanich’s projected police budget is $35,242,400 (though it might be lowered) and the department consists of 161 officer position and 60 civilian positions split between two locations with headquarters at 760 Vernon Ave. and a smaller outfit, including the community engagement division, nearby at 57 Cadillac Ave.
“Earning a 95 per cent approval is a great thing anytime,” Haynes said. “The survey results are used to guide our approach to resourcing, so it’s reassuring to see the long practice of our department is recognized and appreciated.
