Enjoying today’s sunshine? It’s not going to last long.

Environment Canada issued a severe weather warning this morning for thunderstorms with heavy downpours by late afternoon.

“A warm, humid southerly flow of air over the south coast today will combine with an approaching Pacific cold front to create favourable conditions for thunderstorm development over the Lower Mainland by this evening. It’s possible a few of these storms will cross the southern tip of Vancouver Island as well,” said Environment Canada.

The storms will be localized with heavy rain downpours of 15 to 25 millimetres along with the risk of hail.

Environment Canada advises during severe thunderstorms to stay indoors or take cover. If you are in a car, stop the car away from trees or power lines that might fall on you. Stay there until the storm passes.

Please continue to monitor alerts and forecasts issued by Environment Canada.
