Sooke Fire Rescue responding to a brush fire at the end of Whiffin Spit. at approximately 4 pm this afternoon.

Early reports indicate fire is in bush near the beach. It’s a small fire and likely caused by a discarded cigarette, say fire officials.

Sooke resident Alan Dolan said he and three others were walking by and noticed a bunch of smoke, and found a small fire in the bushes.

They initially tried to put the fire out but realized it needed to be doused so they called 911 and let the Fire Rescue take care of it.

The fire was put out approximately half an hour later.
