Sooke Fire Rescue chief Kenn Mount predicts the fire risk warning to reach extreme within a few days, should the heat wave continue.

Temperatures have reached near 30 C across B.C. this week, and according to the Weather Network, the sunshine in Sooke is expected to continue.

Mount said there haven’t been any issues with bush fires recently, but he urges people to be cautious, especially following last year’s fire season.

“People have been better about open burning this year, we haven’t had many complaints,” said Mount. “But I think everyone is quite aware that the whole province was on fire last year, so the careless behaviour hasn’t been a trend again so far.”
