The Royal Canadian Marine Search and Rescue (RCMSAR) station in Sooke rescued a person in the vicinity of Beechy Head this morning.

At approximately 10:25 a.m. RCMSAR recieved a report of someone crying for help, and began their search from Alldridge Pt. in Becher Bay. Shortly after, a vessel reported seeing a jet ski on fire in the south of Beechy Bay.

RCMSAR was able to locate the person calling for help using radar sound signals and pull them out of the water. Once the person was on board, they began treatment for cold water immersion and shock.

They were able to re-warm the patient and transport them back to the RCMSAR vessel to monitor their well-being.

“Great team work and coordination by CCG and RCMSAR to quickly resolve the issue,” said the RCMSAR in a Facebok post. “We thank the vessel of opportunity for their quick reaction and getting the person out of the water.”
