The Sooke Road project remains on budget and on time, the B.C. Transportation Ministry says.

The $10-million project in upgrades to Sooke and West Coast Roads includes new bus stops, a new two-lane bridge on Gillespie Road, a bus queue jump lane, new safety signs, a slow-moving vehicle pullout and rest area.

But earlier this month the project hit a glitch when it was discovered six newly-constructed bus stop cement pads along Sooke Road were sized incorrectly and needed to be re-done.

The height discrepancy was about 10 centimetres, or four inches, and potential for the curb to be bumped by bus bumpers when using the pullouts.

“Weather permitting, we anticipate all six concrete pads will be poured by early next week, and bus shelters will be installed by mid-May including electrical hook-ups,” said the ministry in an email statement to the Sooke News Mirror.
