The Sooke School District is getting a new superintendent next fall.

Scott Stinson will replace Jim Cambridge, who retires in August.

“We’re really excited to welcome Scott back to our school district,” said board chair Ravi Parmar.

“The board of education collaborated extensively with different groups to find the best fit for our rapidly growing and successful school district. We’re confident Scott will be a great leader as we continue to build on the successes of both the students and the district.”

Stinson has worked in education throughout Greater Victoria for more than 30 years, including the Sooke School District where he was once a principal at David Cameron Elementary school in Langford. He is currently assistant superintendent for the Saanich School District.

“I saw this position as a great opportunity to come back and reconnect with such great people,” Stinson said.

“Sooke is a very vibrant, engaging and innovative school district, and I’m very excited to be coming back.”

Stinson is looking forward to both building new relationships, and re-establishing old ones at his new job.

He said he will be keeping his eye on the transformation agenda set by the Education Ministry, and looking at the curriculum changes in kindergarten to Grade 9 and grad programs that will be coming in the next school year.

“I want to make sure we have great facilities for kids to learn today, and in to the future as well,” Stinson said.

“I can’t wait to work with the board of education, staff, Aboriginal and partner groups as well as stakeholders to continue offering students rich learning opportunities in such an innovative school district.”
