Sooke School District receives $1.1, some earmarked for Dunsmuir ventilation repair

The money will also go toward adding two buses to the fleet, according to the district.

The Sooke School District received $1,150,623 in funding from the BC Ministry of Education for school maintenance projects.

Part of the money will go toward window and ventilation repair in Dunsmuir Middle School, where overcapacity has led some students to attend classrooms taught in the more than 10 portables.

The money will also go toward adding two buses to the fleet, according to the district.

“The BC Liberals neglected our public education system for years, leaving behind billions in deferred maintenance costs,” said Esquimalt-Metchosin MLA Mitzi Dean in a news release.

The funding is part of a $206 million provincial investment under the Annual Facilities Grant, School Enhancement Program, Carbon Neutral Capital Program and Bus Replacement Program.

The province has announced $23.2 million for a 600-seat Royal Bay Secondary expansion, and $23.3 million to buy land for a new elementary and middle school in Westhills.
