Three local firefighters answer the call to help to fight wildfires.

Sooke Fire Rescue received a request this week from the Office of the Fire Commissioner to send resources to Fort St. Sames, so Rod Davis and Brandon Knowles were deployed with two other firefighters from Metchosin and Langford on Sooke’s Engine 3.

A third Sooke firefighter, Josh Schmidt, was also disptched later, along with a Metchosin engine.

It is uncertain as to how long the firefighters will be in Fort St. James, but the department expects them to be gone for approximately 10 days.

“We have a rotation schedule in place in case we’re asked for further support,” said Julie Barlow with Sooke Fire Rescue. “Our membership really stepped up.”
