Police are investigating after a hiker found a man's body near Port Renfrew on Sunday, March 12.

"There was a body located," said RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Tammy Douglas, but she would give no further details.

The identity of the body has not yet been established, though the Vancouver Island Integrated Major Crime Unit, Sooke RCMP and B.C. Coroner's Service are investigating, said Sooke RCMP Staff Sgt. Jeff McArthur.

"An autopsy is scheduled for later this week, after which further information will be released," McArthur said.

Sooke RCMP are also investigating a missing man report on Thursday in Poirier Lake area where the man's car was found abandoned.

No connection between the two incidents has been established, according to police.
