View Royal, Colwood fire crews respond to residential fire in Songhees Nation

One person unconscious in early morning fire

Sixteen firefighters from View Royal and Colwood, as well as BC Ambulance crews and police, responded to a residential structure fire in Songhees Nation early Saturday morning.

View Royal Fire Chief Paul Hurst said crews responded to the fire on Chief Robert Sam Lane at 5:35 a.m.

There were initial reports of occupants still in the four-unit building.

The first crews that arrived found a fire in the kitchen with one occupant unconscious inside the building. Firefighters removed the occupant and transferred them to BC Ambulance Service for care. Injuries to the individual are unknown.

Hurst said the fire was contained quickly with damage to one unit in the building.

View Royal and Colwood Emergency Support Services were on scene to assist with temporary lodging for displaced residents.

The fire is currently under investigation but is being deemed not suspicious.
