It is with deep sadness we announce the passing of our much loved Uncle Charlie. He was born in Prelate, Saskatchewan and moved out to Victoria in the early 1920’s. Charlie worked as a roofer before spending time in the shipyard for the Canadian Military. After the War he started C Smith Roofing where he earned the nickname “Ironman” for his strength and dedication to doing the job right. Charlie also spent time as a bartender where his charming personality was always on display. As an avid golfer Charlie played every track in Victoria but spent much of his time at Metchosin Golf Course where he could always be seen showing off his unique fashion style of plus 4’s and matching ensembles. Billiards and Snooker were also a favorite pastime but it was his love of gardening that kept Charlie busy. Through these many endeavors Uncle Charlie always passed along his wisdom to our younger generations. In his final days he was still tutoring us on the finer points of putting, how to leave your pool opponent in a lurch and when to plant the scarlet runners. He will be deeply missed by all of his family and friends. Thanks to Dr. Tracy Forsberg for her compassionate care and to Bruce and Hedy Petrie for their amazing friendship with Charlie. No funeral by request
