McLeod, “Jack” John Malcolm


At his residence in Sooke, British Columbia, Jack passed away on Wednesday, January 4, 2017, aged 88. Beloved husband of Jean Elizabeth (nee Crawford) for 62 wonderful years. Loving father of Donald (Sandy) of Peterborough, ON, Douglas (Nevia) of Sooke, BC, Joanne (Perry) of Baker Creek, BC and David of Chilliwack, BC. Grandfather of Stephen, John, Matthew, Raeleigha and Maia. Great grandfather of Gwendolyn, Zinnia and Desmond. Pre-deceased by brother Donald Douglas, Niagara-On-The-Lake, ON. Pre-deceased by his parents Donald Laughlin and Marian Ada McLeod.

Jack began his life in St.Catherines, Ontario and lived there until his university days. After marrying Jean, they moved on to New Brunswick, Quebec, New Caledonia and British Columbia. He and Jean travelled all over North America with their truck and camper and had a great time. Jack will be remembered for his family, church, birding, fishing and professional career in forest entomology. Jack volunteered many hours for the Sooke Salmon Enhancement Society.

A funeral service will be held at 4:30 pm on Saturday, January 21, 2017, at Church Of Our Lord, 626 Blanshard Street, Victoria. A Celebration of Life will be held in Sooke, BC in the Spring, 2017. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Sooke Salmon Enhancement Society.

McLeod, Jean Elizabeth (nee Crawford)


At Victoria General Hospital, Victoria, British Columbia, Jean passed away peacefully on Sunday January 8, 2017, aged 85. Beloved wife of the late “Jack” John Malcolm McLeod for 62 wonderful years. Loving mother of Donald (Sandy) of Peterborough, ON, Douglas (Nevia) of Sooke, BC, Joanne (Perry) of Baker Creek, BC and David of Chilliwack, BC. Grandmother of Stephen, John, Matthew, Raeleigha and Maia. Great grandmother of Gwendolyn, Zinnia and Desmond. Dear sister of Marion Swanston (James) of Peterborough, ON. Pre-deceased by her brother Douglas Crawford (Ruth). Pre-deceased by her parents Donald Crawford, Pearl Crawford (nee Coward, natural mother) and Sally Crawford (nee Leonard).

Jean began her life in Peterborough, Ontario and lived there until her nurse training in St.Catherines. The rest of her life with Jack was spent in New Brunswick, Quebec, New Caledonia and British Columbia. Jean’s early career as a nurse and later as the family homemaker were characterized by love and kindness. Jean and Jack had a great time together travelling all over North America during which time Jean created her quilts. Jean will be remembered for her family, church and her many hundreds of quilts given to family, friends and those in need.
