In loving memory ~
The family of James (Jim) Perkins is sad to share the news of his death.
Jim grew up in Edmonton, Alberta and later attended the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology. He moved to Sooke with his wife Bev in the 70's, where they built a house and raised their family.
Jim worked for the Government of Canada as an electronics technician with the Defence Research Establishment Pacific (DREP) for 26 years and spent many springs working in the Arctic. He was deeply involved in the Sooke community, where he coached hundreds of kids through the Sooke Soccer Association and also served as club President. He volunteered as a commissioner with the SEAPARC Commission for more than 20 years and helped guide the development of many of Sooke's community assets including the pool, bike park, sports box, Stan Jones Ball Field and the DeMamiel Creek Golf Course.
Jim is missed by Bev, his wife of 54 years and his children Ryan (Krista) and Kim (Kevin), grandchildren Finn (Theo), Parker, Sawyer and Charlotte, his brother, Gerald, and his Thursday pub buddies. Jim was predeceased by his parents Gordon and Nina, his brother Fred, and sisters Barb and Joan.
The family would like to thank the Sooke first responders and the staff at the Royal Jubilee's Cardiac Care Unit.
A celebration of life will be held at the 17 Mile Pub on Monday, September 23, 3-6 pm.
