In loving memory ~

With profound sadness, the family of Lexa Gollmer announces her passing at Royal Jubilee Hospital after a short battle with cancer. She was 73.

Born and raised in the Victoria area, Lexa married her high school sweetheart David, with the couple recently celebrating their 51st anniversary. The newlyweds moved to Otter Point in 1976 where they built their pan-abode home surrounded by nature. They soon became an integral part of the Sooke community and eventually welcomed their cherished son Bradley.

A long-time member of the Otter Point Volunteer Fire Department, Lexa pulled hose alongside the guys and ultimately earned a captain's rank. She was also considered the mother of the area's First Responder program and she was awarded the Governor General's Exemplary Service Medal in 2004 for 20 years with the department.

In later years, she enjoyed delivering Meals on Wheels, chatting with seniors and checking on their welfare.

Always willing to lend a helping hand to friends and strangers alike, Lexa's caring and generous nature led her into a nursing career in hospital geriatric and pediatric units, and later as a paramedic with the BC Ambulance Service in Sooke. With a warm heart and gentle approach, Lexa's empathy and compassion touched many people over the years.

But most will remember her best for that large beaming smile while playing a practical joke or playing a fish on the line. Her longing to be outdoors led to countless wilderness camping trips with Dave and Brad, along with a few close friends and a dog or two in tow. She loved nothing more than a good campfire ringed by family and friends with chilled wine at the ready. She enjoyed the simple pleasures, good conversation, playing cards, swapping stories and laughing 'til she cried.

In addition to Dave and Brad, Lexa leaves behind her sister Cindy Cox (Stuart ) and brother David Hall (Jackie) both of Victoria; a large extended family of in-laws, cousins, nieces, nephews; as well as many friends. All will miss her kind heart, quiet chuckle and warm hugs.

There will be no service, at her request.

"No worries. I'm gone fishin'."
