October 10, 1946 - September 8, 2022
In loving memory ~
Lorrace (Lorry) Townsend passed away at 10:58pm on September 8 2022. It's only fitting that Lorry shared his final journey with Queen Elizabeth II or "ol' Liz" as he called her. Born in Edmonton, AB October 10 1946, a date that he loved, not only because it was his birthday but also because he loved turkey dinner (sandwiches especially) and also it meant that the NHL season was starting so he could follow his beloved and ever disappointing Vancouver Canucks.
Lorry is survived by his loving wife Rosmarie (Rosie) of 53+ years with rarely a day spent apart. Daughter Tracey (Vince), son Deryl (Frankie), Grandsons Janzen (Jonelle), Isaiah (Hanna) and granddaughter Faith, brother Val (Shelly) and sister Heather (Steve) Lorry loved to laugh and make others laugh along with him. He had an uncanny ability to turn strangers into friends everywhere he went and Lorry never met a baby that he didn't love.
Lorry and Rosie loved to travel so much that it wasn't uncommon to see upwards of 9 of the "Townsend Crew" travelling together in one giant heap of functioning dysfunction. Dad definitely had two clear cut travel favourites, first visiting his lifelong dear friends Larry and Sandi in Kona Hawaii. Secondly visiting his other lifelong friends Anni and Ruedi in Switzerland. In fact, he loved Switzerland so much that his friends and family affectionately referred to him as a "born again Swiss" and he lovingly called Rosie his "Swiss Army Wife". When not travelling, they called Sooke home.
Dad opened Homers Most Excellent Take Out at Milne's landing, he worked side by side with his son Deryl. He fed and entertained many locals and tourists alike. He really loved that place! You are deeply missed already, Lorry.
Husband, Dad, Grandpa, Friend, Brother and Son.
