MAMIE MARGARET REYNOLDS HILL-HALLIDAY-DODS

May 19, 2011

REYNOLDS-MAMIEyoung

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Mamie in Salmon Arm, BC on

May 19, 2011 at the age of 89 years.

Mamie was born on the farm of her Finnish immigrant parents in Salmon Arm (Gleneden) on April 29, 1922.

Mamie will be forever remembered by sons Steve Halliday-Victoria, Lorn Halliday-Campbell River, daughter in law Deb Halliday-Sooke, grandchildren Matt, Lisa and Greg Halliday, all of Victoria. She also leaves behind a lifetime of relatives and friends with whom she never lost touch. Mom was the last surviving sibling from a group of 11.

Working on the farm, helping out at home, participating in sports, music, working and the Salmon Arm Exchange Packing House and spending time with friends, consumed Mom’s early years growing up in Salmon Arm.

In 1948 Mamie married Floyd Halliday and moved to Port Renfrew. After raising her family in Port Renfrew, Jordan River and Sooke, making many lifelong friends along the way and with two marriages behind her, mom’s roots were calling and she moved back to Salmon Arm in 1978.

In 1982 Mamie married Wilf Reynolds and together they built a home on land that was Mamie’s parent’s retirement home. Mamie and Wilf had many good times together until Wilfs passing in 1985.

During Moms later years, she remained very active, skiing, golfing, bowling, curling and even shoveling snow from her roof in her 80’s. Mom’s door was always open and hardly a day went by when someone didn’t stop by. They often left with something from her huge garden.

Mom was very proud of her Finnish heritage and did many things in the Finnish tradition.

Mamie reluctantly sold her home in 2006 and moved to Piccadilly Terrace Retirement Residence where she spent the next two years. With many years of hard work and play behind her, Mom needed more care and moved to Hillside Village.

Mom had 85 very healthy and active years, and for that we are thankful.

A gracious and heartfelt thanks to niece Wendy Askew for all her help over the years and to the incredible and loving staff at Hillside Village who cared for Mom for the last three years.

No service at Mom’s request.

Arrangements entrusted to FISCHER’S FUNERAL SERVICES & CREMATORIUM LTD., Salmon Arm, BC, (250) 833-1129. EMAIL condolences and share memories at www.fischersfuneralservices.com.
