Martha Lou Moore (nee Day)

May 7, 2019

August 15, 1933 - May 7, 2019
Martha Lou (Day) Moore passed away peacefully early in the morning of May 7, 2019 with family by her side. Born on August 15, 1933, the only child to William Arthur Day and Constance Emily Rugg, predeceased by her husband of 57 years, Vern Moore, in 2015.
Proud pioneer daughter, raised on a homestead in the Peace River country at Groundbirch, BC, Martha remained a farm girl at heart. She followed husband Vern on his many military postings across the country, creating gardens, supporting communities and adopting families wherever she lived. Her door was always open, the coffee always on and baking fresh out of the oven, ready to be shared.
Her passion for helping and her belief that community is everything meant she was always ready to lend a hand, whether selling 50/50 and raffle tickets or making buns for Meals on Wheels. Her love of farming life led to Martha’s involvement the Sooke Fall Fair and the Shirley Women’s Institute.
Martha’s nurturing, positive spirit was reflected in her roles as Brownie, Guide, Pathfinder and Ranger leader, Sunday School teacher, and her career as a home support caregiver.
Left to remember her with love and gratitude are daughter, Terrie (Steve Shortt), sons Jim and Bill Moore; grandsons Garett and Kyle Poirier (Samantha Laliberty), granddaughter Sydnee Ogden-Moore; great- grandchildren Kallen and Sage Poirier, and many, many more who considered her their Mom and Grandma.
A celebration of Martha's well-lived life will take place on Saturday, May 25 at 2 pm at the Sooke Community Hall, 2037 Sheilds Road.
In lieu of flowers, Martha requested that people do a kindness for someone. The family asks that if people wish to make a donation in Martha's name, they consider the Sooke Fall Fair.
