Marvin Norman Olson died peacefully at the age of 92, in the loving care of the Glenwarren Lodge in Victoria.
He is survived by his wife Doreen, brother Irvine Olson (Diane) of Camrose AB, stepsons Kevin Pearson (Trudy), Shawn Pearson (Norma) both of Sooke, stepdaughter June Herrling (Dan) of Winter Harbour and stepson Matthew Pearson, grandchildren Jonathan Pearson (Chelsea) of Langford, Erika Talbot (Nick), Blake Pearson both of Sooke, William Pearson (Cadence) of Victoria, Daniel Pearson (Chelsea) of Spruce Grove AB, Matthew Herrling (Erin), Neil Herrling, both of Lake Cowichan, Joseph Herrling (Shelby) of Port McNeill and 13 great grandchildren.
Marvin was one of ten children born to John and Martha (Johnson) Olson at Dinant, AB. Marvin grew up working on the family farm learning a valuable work ethic that saw him grow up fast and he was able to work with grown men at an early age. From hand logging in BC to road construction all over Alberta in all conditions. Marvin also raised cattle and had his own grader and construction business. He married Doreen Pearson (nee Lowe) in Vegreville, AB in 1977. They then moved to Sooke, BC in 1980 where he continued in his own construction business. His passion was baseball, he loved to watch the many games in Sooke and Victoria. He played competitively from a young age and into his 60's. He loved dogs and his horse 'Bucky.' Marvin was a quiet, well-spoken, peaceful guy who led by example and would never compromise his principles. He loved his family and showed it continually. The grandchildren loved to see him at their acreage on Whiffen Spit Road in Sooke. He will be forever loved and never forgotten by his family and friends.
A celebration of Marvin's life will be held at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses in Sooke on Saturday, December 7th @ 2:00pm.
