It is with heavy hearts that we, the children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, announce the passing of our beloved patriarch Roy Steinke.

He was predeceased by his first love, Dawn, wife of 41 years. Roy died of a broken heart 29 days after the passing of his sweetheart Ida Gray.

He leaves to mourn Heather (John), Dean (Dawn), Alexandra (Ryan), Chelsea, Julianne (Corey), Kayia, Kaytan, Arden and Ashlynn.

He will also be greatly missed by Ida's family who accepted Roy as one of their own.

Roy was born in Viewfield, Saskatchewan on the family farm. He served in the Canadian Armed Forces which took him to many different countries and on various peace keeping missions around the world. When given a posting far from Victoria he chose to retire from the military and was offered a job at Naden.

He enjoyed a long career in the accounting department there then retired to the home he and his family built in Sooke, a true labor of love. He enjoyed camping, working in his garden, chopping his own wood and cooking dinners for his family.

A gathering of family and friends will be held at a later date.
