Passed away in his 79th year on December 7, 2008.Bill passed peacefully with his family by his side. Predeceased by his father Joseph, mother Jeanie, sister Joannah, brothers Joseph and Gordon. Survived by his loving wife of 46 years Barbara (nee Crossan) and his children Heather Smith, Lorna Moth (John), Steele Smith (Sherri), Shyanne Smith (Brian), and Fiona Larkin (Paul). Grandchildren Isaac, Troy, Joe, Anthony, Andrew, Dylan, Kayleigh, Ewen, Rhianna, Katie, and Courtney. Numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
Bill was a resident on Becher Bay Road in East Sooke for over 50 years. Bill led a colourful life with many careers that included commercial fishing, sawmilling, logging, ranching, salvaging, sailing charters, volunteer firefighter, quarrying, and land developing. The last years of his life were spent building and running his Country Store “Bills Food and Feed” in East Sooke. With his passing we lose a dedicated husband, father, grandfather and friend. Bill spent his last day in East Sooke doing all the things he enjoyed; running his excavator, being on his sailboat, and working at the store.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his name to either; “Heart and Stroke Foundation” or “Canadian Diabetes Association”.
