LETTER: Council incapable of stopping growth

From the tone of two items in the Dec. 23 issue of the News Mirror, it would seem that I’m not the only one alarmed by the mushrooming development and the all too rapid loss of Sooke’s small-town atmosphere.

From the tone of two items in the Dec. 23 issue of the News Mirror, it would seem that I’m not the only one alarmed by the mushrooming development and the all too rapid loss of Sooke’s small-town atmosphere.

I already wrote about this a year ago. Since then, nothing has changed with our present municipal council seemingly unwilling or unable to control growth.

Any trip now along Highway 14 provides a graphic example of this unasked-for explosion. Even developments still under construction, like the complex at Drennan and Highway 14, are creating more congestion.

I welcome the concern of groups such as Transition Sooke. And as far as I’m concerned, we can’t have council elections soon enough now so that the present members can be asked some hard questions, whether that makes some of them swear out loud or not!
