LETTER: Police uniforms need a makeover

I was recently sitting in a coffee shop on Beacon Avenue enjoying where I live. Three RCMP officers walked across the street together, dressed in black from head to foot, wrapped in bulletproof vests and equipment/weapon belts, looking like something from the Dark Side.

Contrasted to the smiling, colourful and friendly-looking people enjoying themselves in Sidney these “peace officers” looked anything but, rather they looked ready for combat. Are intimidating uniforms really what we want for our police? How about something that signifies approachability, helpfulness and peaceful behaviour?
