Huge kudos to Officer Hartley at the Sooke RCMP.
When my 11-year-old son's scooter was stolen from the back of the library this morning, we visited the detachment and filed a case. Though pricey for a kid's scooter, my concern was that it was nonetheless not valuable enough for the police to pursue the case. Contrary to my concern, Officer Hartley not only acted on the case, but acted with diligence. Having an idea as to where it may be found, he told us what he would do to try to track it down and even assured us he would be right on it -- provided nothing more pressing arose for him. I was heartened both by his intent and his kindness.
For that alone I was grateful, though admittedly not hopeful. Imagine my surprise when a few hours later Officer Hartley showed up at our door with my son's scooter in hand! I was impressed, thankful, and so happy to live in Sooke, which, despite all its growth, maintains its small-town connectedness. Thank you officer Hartley and the Sooke RCMP!
