I strongly believe in the drive to end gender violence (and violence in all its forms).
However, I’m put off by the Moose Hide moniker which in itself contains an unspoken thread of violence. Tolstoy said, “As long as there are slaughterhouses, there will be wars.”
I applaud the effort as well as the recognition that violence needs to be eradicated and the fact that our provincial government provides funding for the cause and the educational means, but I believe the roots of societal violence are more subtle and go deeper than learning anger management, K to 12 classroom discussions, workshops and online exploration.
Violence is all around us in our treatment of animals for our use and abuse. It’s all part of an insidious continuum of violence which is regarded as normalized behaviour and this behaviour also needs to be addressed.
