Letters: Warning should be given

Cougar sightings should have prompted warning to spit walkers

I was surprised today when my wife was walking to the spit and told me she passed a police car and conservation officer drive by a few times. She noticed when she got to the mail box that a notice had been put up about the (cougar) sighting.

My surprise was that they hadn’t stopped to warn her, and that with my son going to John Muir elementary. No warning was issued to the school as a number of children make their own way home.

From a matter of safety perspective should this not be part of some protocol when a sighting is noted in a residential area?
