Re: Flag flies proudly in town centre (News, April 24)
I was confounded upon observing a foreign flag flying in the Sooke roundabout.
I applaud the efforts to address civic pride. It is not the look of the flag, but rather the messages of the flag with which I take issue.
It’s pointed out to your readers that the flag represents the first European contact as well as the first European settler.
This left me asking: Where are the acknowledgement and recognition of the T’Souke Nation, which was here before European settlers and on whose traditional territories we reside? A glaring oversight perhaps, which does little to address the spirit of reconciliation.
