3rd Kelowna Rocket alumni in 2 weeks to reach 1,000-game mark in NHL

Mikael Backlund joins Luke Schenn and Tyler Myers to reach the milestone this month

Kelowna Rockets alumni Mikael Backlund is set to play in his 1,000th career game in the NHL on Wednesday, Oct. 30.

Luke Schenn, Tyler Myers, and now Mikael Backlund.

Within a span of two weeks, the three Kelowna Rockets alumni have each reached 1,000 games  in the NHL. 

Backlund is set to reach the milestone on Wednesday, Oct. 30 as he suits up for the Calgary Flames against the Utah Hockey Club. 

Schenn played in his 1,000th game for Nashville on Thursday, Oct. 17 while Myers did for Vancouver on Oct. 19.

Now 35, Backlund has spent his entire NHL career with Calgary, totalling 536 points (202 goals, 334 assists). 

The Vasteras, Sweden native played for the Rockets in the 2008-09 season with Myers, on their way to winning the WHL championship. He had 30 points in 28 games with the Rockets.
