Salmon fishing in Sooke continues to be rewarding for those willing to brave cool winter weather.
Our charter boats and other saltwater sports fishers are reporting good salmon catches on almost every trip out.
Most boats are staying close to the Sooke Harbour mouth as this seems to be as good a location as any and it’s close to the launch.
Smaller glow and green spoons and hootchies continue to be popular, tied on short two- to three-foot leaders behind bright glow flashers, trolled on, or very close to the bottom.
Crabbing is still great in the Sooke Harbour when traps are left to “soak” during a four to six-hour fishing trip.
Rumours continue to circulate about the pending halibut season opening, but no official announcement yet.
