More than 500 fans took in the Sooke Boxing Club’s Sooke Slam Stiff Jab card at the Sooke Comunity Hall on Saturday night.

The event featured 10 bouts, including the main event which saw former Sooke heavyweight boxer and now national team member Bryan Colwell defeat Ben Alvarez.

But perhaps the best fight of the night involved B.C. women’s champion Krishan Lysenko and Alberta champ Maddy Swanson in the elite female 62-kilogram division.

Lysenko took the win.

Sam Lowden was the lone member of the Sooke Boxing Club to get into the ring when he took on Tyler Clarke in an exhibition match in the 81-kilogram division.

Other matches saw Ali Beig lose to Oakley Fitzsimmons in the women’s Junior B 38-kilogram novice division.

In the youth 75-kilogram open boys division, Eli Wyse beat Jonathan Hannah, while in the senior 67-kilogram novice division Phil Liappas and Anthony Verella fought in an exhibition tilt.

Nathan Dizon defeated Spencer Dao in the senior men’s 61-kilogram novice division.

“All the fights were really good and the night was fun,” said

Ellen Connor of the Sooke Boxing Club.
