Cain started out with the Shamrocks’ training staff in 1978. In 1982, he took over the role of head trainer and held the position until 2015 for a total of 37 seasons.

Back in June, Cain told the Gazette of his reaction upon receiving the news he would be inducted.

“It means everything to me for my career with the Shamrocks,” he said, noting that he was waiting at a store when he heard the good news. “I’m glad I was sitting down … I was very emotional.”

‘Rocks general manager Chris Welch said the organization will be looking on with pride as well as gratitude at the ceremony.

“I’m so pleased to see a trainer getting this prestigious recognition,” he said. “Jim like so many other trainers in our sport was always the first one to arrive for games and practices and the last one to leave, his work was done away from the spotlight and the highlight reels, but was vitally important to our success. I can think of no one who is more deserving of this honour.”

The ceremony is scheduled for Nov. 11 at the Anvil Centre.
