The Freshwater Fisheries Society of B.C. have released 1,300 hatchery-born trout into local lakes.
The rainbow trout was brought in by a large tanker truck to Poirier, Matheson and Kemp lakes on Thursday. The lakes are stocked annually by the FFSBC.
Each fish weighs 228 grams, or half a pound, and catchable.
The FFSBC’s Vancouver Island trout hatchery rears approximately 300,000 fish each year and stocks 50 to 60 Island lakes and one river, said hatchery manager Tristan Robbins.
The Freshwater Fisheries Society of B.C. was created in 2003 as a private, not-for-profit organization, funded largely through freshwater fishing licence revenues.
