Aging well workshop coming to Sooke Dec. 14

Workshop aimed at helping seniors improve quality of life

The Sooke Region Communities Health Network will host an Aging Well workshop on Dec. 14.

“We are seeing more and more seniors moving here because of the climate, and there are many seniors who don’t think about or plan their aging,” said Christine Bossi, coordinator for SRCHN.

The workshop is at the Sooke Child, Youth and Family Centre, and aimed at helping people improve their quality of life.

“This is a preventative measure so they can plan ahead, and make their own decisions for their future,” Bossi said.

Topics discussed at the meeting will include: health, housing, transportation, finances and social connections.

The workshop runs from 1 to 5 p.m. Light refreshment will be served.

SRCHN’s goal with the meeting is to make seniors aware of the obstacles they may face as they age, and help them prepare for a better future.

“If seniors feel insecure about their future, then the aging process will not be a good one,” Bossi said. “By planning your aging you have better possibility of staying at home longer, and assuring a healthy and stimulating life.”
