The Reading Room Café was filled to capacity May 21 as locals raised money for the Canadian Red Cross, and subsequently – Japanese earthquake/tsunami aid. The event had daytime and evening components, with the Pyjama Beatniks (pictured at right, Bernie Radelfinger and Elena Christians) supplying a crowd-pleasing set of songs at night. Much credit to the Beatniks for their winning choice of material and spot-on delivery. The easy-going duo did justice to, for example: Steve Miller’s Fly Like an Eagle, Nancy Sinatra’s These Boots are Made for Walkin’, The Beatles’ Come Together, and War’s Low Rider.
Very close to $1,000 was raised in the effort.
