Sidney is the “bloomingest” community for the second consecutive year, determined by the 49th annual Greater Victoria Flower Count.

Two days before the count closed, Sidney was just shy of eight billion blooms while Esquimalt (in the lead at that time) and Victoria both had more than eight billion. Victoria and Saanich finished second and third.

A sudden burst put Sidney over the edge at more than 17 billion by the end. The Peninsula town dethroned Colwood in 2023 by documenting 7.58 billion blossoms.

From March 6 to 13, residents and visitors were invited to count flowers on trees, shrubs and bushes throughout the region and submit them online to find the community with the most blooms.

The 49th event ended with a record-breaking 38,031,937,388 blossoms counted by flower lovers in the region – defeating last year’s count by nearly five billion blooms.

In the school competition, Ms. Lake’s Class, from Margaret Jenkins Elementary, earned a prize by tallying 8,049,629,422 blooms.

The class wins a free trip to The Butchart Gardens, escorted by L.A. Limousines & Transportation Services.
